Led my first I-GIG tonight!

I-GIG stands for International Groups Investigating God.  GIGs are an InterVarsity method of Bible study that is designed for non-believers.  I've decided that I LOVE leading GIGs.  My desire to be a part of the ELIC missions program in China has also increased as a result.

Brad wanted me to make a short write-up for him and Dave, so I'm just going to copy/paste what I already wrote...  it isn't nearly close to everything I have (and want) to say, but for the sake of you and my own laziness, it'll do.

---
Tonight was the first of four GIG meetings planned for the rest of the semester.  Seven people came, of which three who are non-believers.  After everybody introduced themselves, I had each person participate in an ice breaker.  Laugther and chaos filled the room, and nobody wanted to stop playing.  I eventually redirected attention so that I could welcome everyone and start the study.  After explaining the GIG process and ground rules, we read Mark 1:40-45, took time to make observations, and discussed the passage.  Everybody willingly participated in discussion.  June even shared a testimony when application questions were being presented.  Her testimony tied in perfectly with the final words & verse that I had prepared to end the evening with.

The evening was a great success.  Everybody seemed to have a great deal of fun, and I thoroughly enjoyed leading it.  I originally had many doubts and worries about having to be a part of the GIG.  Everybody’s prayers, and my leaving all worries to God, however, made the evening seem like it was on cruise control.

I’ve attached a photo taken tonight.  There is more if you visit this link:

Something I swore I'd never do

(EXIF embedded)

Yup.  It's a photo of my feet.  I've been saying (for years) that it's really odd how women like to take photos of their feet, and that I couldn't ever imagine myself doing it... but somehow I've managed to perform this act of insanity.

I was bored and looking for some test matter to try a new lens on (I got a hold of a Minolta 70-210mm F4 this week... you know... the legendary Beercan?).  The Beercan is famous for the amazing bokeh it can produce and ... well... the photo says the rest.

Answers to prayers...

God is amazing... always and forever.

Due to excitement, I had initially dismissed (okay.. forgotten really) that I had actually been praying through InterVarsity's week of 24/7 about getting new trial contacts that would work.  But even if it's late, I give credit to where it's due!

With regard to my eyes, yet another wonderful thing happened just today.  The ridiculously $$$ Rudy Project sunglasses that I race in have slowly developed a crack in the frame.  As such, they're out for warranty repair and I've spent the last week searching relentlessly for a cheap temporary substitution.  (No sunglasses = no racing... unless I like dry eyes, blurry vision, and massive cycling wrecks.)  Since I'm Asian (with a big head and no prominent nose bridge), finding anything under $150 has been nigh impossible.  This morning, I was passing a Big 5 sporting store and decided to pop in and see what might be available. It was early and nobody was around so the manager was helping and getting quite flustered himself by the apparent lack of solutions that would work on my face.  He eventually pulled out something from inside a glass counter and stuck them on my face; these frames actually fit...  In amazement, I took them off and noticed the price tag .. $149.  Ugh.  I rementioned that anything of Smith Optics level eyewear was well out of the price range I had originally set and immediately the manager asked "well what if I sold them to you for $49, just like these other <points to some random unheard of brand> sunglasses are on sale for?"  I'm pretty sure that at that moment my jaw hit the floor before I recomposed myself and gratefully accepted the offer.

The most important thing regarding that big blurb above though... is that today was unlike any other day in that I prayed about my dilemma in the morning.  Now, I don't simply have the cheap temp that I was looking for, but a serious piece of quality optics to hang onto for use in the future.

No more excuses to be slow

I got my powertap today!

Before I say anything else ..  funny story here.
My mom said the most unexpected thing today after I showed her my new wheels.  Basically the first two sentences out of her mouth were 1.) "How much did this cost?" and then, 2.) "I'd be surprised if your bike isn't worth more than most people's cars now."

If you're familiar with bicycling culture and humor then you've likely heard of an ongoing joke that more or less says "You know you're a cyclist if... you put your bike on your car and the total value more than doubles."  or even "...your bike is worth more than your car."  Hilarious in it's own way, but for my own mom who couldn't possibly have been exposed to these 'humor lists' to say something nearly verbatim.... omg lol

Anyhow:  Months spent on eBay waiting for a deal has finally paid off - (dimpled) Zipp 303s laced with Sapim CXRay spokes into a Powertap SL 2.4 wireless system!  All with less than 500 miles of use... unbelievable!  And if that wasn't sweet enough - the seller was local (so I was able to examine the wheels in person and get shipping waived).  I only paid about 1/3 what this would have cost new... what an absolutely scorching deal.  I'm surprised I actually won, especially due to a recent trend of eBay auctions closing at costs greater than new/msrp.

Obligatory porn:
(They're crappy photos, but you try taking pictures while shaking from massive excitement.)
